본 설계안의 개념은 매우 단순하다.
마스터플랜 보행로의 회랑 높이인 지상 5.4m 높이에서 수평 데크가 박물관 대지를 덮고 8.1m로 계획된 그리드의 기둥으로 받쳐진다. 계획 대지의 중심에 원형 마당을 만들고, 입구 로비가 마당을 둘러싸여 형성된다. 이 로비는 마스터플랜의 통합 운영센터와 회랑을 통해 바로 연결되는 동선을 가진다. 수평데크 위에 역삼각 뿔 피라미드 형태의 공간이 두 개가 놓인다. 큰 동에는 두 개 층에 걸쳐 배치된 상설 전시 공간을, 작은 동에는 한 개 층에 기획 전시 공간을 배치하였다. 교육 및 컨퍼런스홀과 같은 복합전시 시설은 상부 전시 공간의 아래인 지상 1층에 배치된다. 학예 연구 시설과 수장고는 프로젝트 남쪽의 선큰 안마당과 지하 박물관 거리를 마주하며 지하 1층에 위치한다. 각 층을 연결하는 완만한 경사로: 선큰 마당의 지하에서 지상까지, 원형 마당의 지상 1층에서 수평 데크까지, 그리고 데크로부터 상설 전시장의 기울어진 외벽과 전시실 유리외벽 사이에 옥상까지 이어지는 경사로가 설치된다. 2개의 전시동의 기울어진 외벽의 안쪽 면은 식재 공간으로 설계되었으며, 전시 공간은 구조 그리드에 맞추어 자연 채광이 되며 유동적이고 가변적인 무주 공간으로 계획되었다.

The concept for our proposal is very simple.
A horizontal plane set at 5.4m above ground level, the height of the masterplan walkways, covers the site and is supported by columns on the 8.1m planning grid. A circular courtyard is created in the center of the plan, surrounded by the entrance lobby and directly connected to the administration building. Two inverted pyramids sit on top of the horizontal deck. The larger volume contains the permanent exhibition spaces, arranged over two floors. The smaller volume contains the temporary exhibition space on a single floor. The public education and conference facilities are located at ground level, beneath the exhibition spaces. The research facilities and storage areas are located at basement level facing a sunken courtyard on the south side of the project and the basement museum street. A series of gentle ramps connect each floor: from basement to ground floor in the sunken courtyard; from ground floor to the horizontal deck within the circular courtyard, and from the deck to the rooftop between the inclined facade of the permanent exhibition hall and the glazed facade.The inner face of the inclined facades to both exhibition volumes are heavily planted, and both volumes have glazed roof lights set in a structural grid creating day lit, flexible and column free spaces.
